Description: The Bible in Africa is a reading/lecture course which explores the reception history of the Bible in Africa, African interpretations of the Bible, and the broader role the Bible has played in African culture, education, economic, social and political life of the continent. Special attention will be paid to the place of the Bible in the long independence struggle, especially in the Southern African region where racial segregation and apartheid systems carried out a dehumanizing praxis that was deemed inimical to biblical teachings, fair political praxis, and international conventions governing the recognition and the respect of human rights and gender equality. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for RELI 538 if student has credit for RELI 426.
