Description: This introductory course examines the complex relationship between art and religion in China (4th - 19th centuries). Through an analysis of painting, sculpture, cave temples, steles, manuscripts, talismans, illustrated prints, and primary sources, we will explore the visual, religious, and cultural dimensions of Buddhism and Daoism, and the fluid nature of Chinese culture.
