Description: In this class, you will learn the fascinating rise of the world’s most valuable agriculture commodity, from Ethiopia to your local coffee shop. Its history has been indelibly tied to our own, and we will develop a critical framework that will change the way you approach your morning cup of joe. We will prepare different types of coffee every day, exploring social movements surrounding coffee culture from different countries. You will develop critical analysis and debate skills, and a deeper understanding of what it means to consume coffee. My wish is that by the end of the class, you will understand the diverse cultures of coffees, and how coffee is evocative of deep inequalities throughout the world.
