Description: A survey of selected mystical texts, figures, and practices as found in both traditional religious contexts and in the modern "spiritual but not religious movement." A variety of methods (psychological, philosophical, sociological, comparative) will be introduced and utilized to make sense of such altered states and their life trajectories.
