Description: This course examines various representations of spirituality and the sacred in modernist and post modernist aesthetics, and their corresponding expressions in historical and contemporary museum practices. Special emphasis will be placed on the outstanding collections of the adjacent museum district, the Menil Collection, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. RELI 602 will be expected to complete a larger-scale final project in consultation with the instructor. The final project will engage a broadened scope of critical methodologies which, in turn, reflect the ways in which both texts and artworks serve as primary objects of study. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for RELI 602 if student has credit for RELI 394.
