Description: This seminar considers theories and narratives of nature in the crafting of modern and contemporary art and architecture in the Americas. We will travel from Humboldt's re-imagined geographies, Jean-Baptiste Lamark's re-formulated notions of milieu, and Xavier Bichat's re-conceptualized human body to 20th century earthworks and current obsessions with ecology and sustainability.
