Long Title: COMPUTATIONAL NEUROSCIENCE AND NEURAL ENGINEERING
Department: Neuroscience
Grade Mode: Standard Letter
Course Type: Lecture
Credit Hours: 3
Description: An introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the brain. Includes basic electrophysiology of nerve and muscle. Develops mathematical models of neurons, synaptic transmission and natural neural networks. Leads to a discussion of neuromorphic circuits which can represent neuron and neural network behavior in silicon. Recommendation: Knowledge of electrical circuits, operational amplifier circuits and ordinary differential equations. Involves programming Matlab. Cross-list: BIOE 481, ELEC 481. Recommended Prerequisite(s): Knowledge of basic electrical and operational amplifier circuits; and ordinary differential equations.
