Description: First course in representation theory, with an emphasis on concrete examples, especially the symmetric group. Topics include representations of finite groups, characters, classification, symmetric functions, Young symmetrizers, and Schur-Weyl duality. Prior experience with proofs is necessary; some familiarity with linear or abstract algebra would be helpful, but can be acquired along the way.
