Description: Why do states fight wars? Moreover, what can existing theories of war tell us about the causes of modern conflicts such as the 2003 invasion of Iraq? We will begin this course by examining several prominent theories of the causes of war. We will then turn to a number of specific questions related to the recent war in Iraq.
