Description: What does religious violence in the modern Middle East mean? Seminar surveys the origins, meanings and forms of sectarianism in the modern Middle East. Examines examples of religious mobilizations and sectarian violence in the late Ottoman empire between Christians and Muslims, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and Iraq following the U.S. invasion of 2003.
