Description: This course will give a comprehensive experience of prints and printmaking through close visual study of original works and the remarkable opportunity to produce printed works of art. Visiting important print collections in Houston and in New York, students will see magnificent examples of the works of master printmakers from Durer, the great Renaissance engraver and woodcutter, to Jasper Johns, one of the greatest printmakers of the present day. In the studio, course participants will experiment with the methods and materials that they have seen in the artists' works, producing their own etchings, lithographs, linocuts, and monoprints. Enrollment may be contingent on portfolio review.
