Description: This four hour, .25 credit course is designed to provide students with an understanding of important marketing issues having specific relevance to the high technology settings of the internet, and the computer hardware and software industries. We will examine a number of prominent high-technology business models in these industries, study unique characteristics of high- technology markets, examine launch and growth marketing strategies, and examine the role of standards and networks. Students will be asked to prepare two cases for discussion during the class and write and turn in a 2-page report on one case of their choice. The course is designed to be a satisfactory/unsatisfactory course with reading of the assigned materials, preparation of the cases, and active and engaged participation as the criteria for fulfilling the course requirements and earning a "pass" grade.
