Description: This research course seeks to examine how sustainability can assume a generative (action), instead of consumerist (passive), model. Focusing on inherent performative qualities of new smart materials, this course challenges the prevailing attitude towards sustainability in architecture. The current model focuses on management - the management of energy consumption and waste production. Focusing on smart materials, the seminar will set up an alternative taxonomy of sustainable design.
