Description: This course builds on and extends the topics introduced in MGMT 503, Management Control. It is situated at the intersection of strategy and control and will focus on the use and design of control systems to facilitate strategic objectives and achieve business goals. It will begin by taking an in-depth look at the levers of control typology introduced in MGMT 503. The course will examine incentive issues that arise when compensation is linked to diagnostic controls, and whether it facilitates or hinders the achievement of strategic objectives. The course then shifts to examine the presence of strategic risks and how strategic pressures impact the accounting environment. Finally, it will examine how a component of the management control system is used to manage those risks. It will also include the current changes in management control and the requirements now imposed on top executives. Repeatable for Credit.
