Description: Introduction to the Middle East from the rise of Islam to the beginning of the 19th century. Topics include conquests and classical Islamic states, Arabization, Jewish and Christian communities, impact of Turkic peoples, and the Ottoman Empire, with emphasis on social, cultural, and political trends which shaped the region's history.
