Description: DEPLOYMENT AND MEASUREMENTS OF WIRELESS
*****
The Rice Networks Group and the non-profit organization Technology For All have recently deployed a state-of-the art multi-hop wireless network in one of Houston's most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. The objective of this network is to empower under-resourced communities with access to technology and educational and work-at-home tools. In this course project teams will perform measurement studies both in the Rice Networks Lab and in the East End neighborhood to characterize the system capacity; optimize placement of wireless nodes; study the effects of traffic and channel characteristics on system-wide performance; and plan deployment of additional nodes to extend the coverage area.
