Description: STUDIES IN AMERICAN ART FROM THE COLONIAL ERA TO 1920

This course will examine a range of topics in U.S. art from the colonial era to circa 1920. Some themes to be addressed will include representations of landscape and their relation to American culture nationalism; social realism vs. modernist abstract images; and representations of general subjectivity in American visual culture.
