Description: This seminar concerns musical responses to the changing religious climate
in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Examination of the concomitant
polemics in theology and government, Biblical Humanism and the Devotio
Moderna, secular vernacular song, and popular preaching will shed light on
the complex interactions between music and society in this age of religious
