Description: Independent chemical research at Rice or in other Texas Medical Center groups. Students spend at least 3 hours per week in the laboratory for each semester hour of credit, in addition to other requirements. If taken for 3 or more hours, counts toward the CHEM 391 requirement for the BS degree in chemistry. Instructor permission required. Students are expected to complete CHEM 391 before the end of their junior year; permission is not normally granted for students in their final year of undergraduate study. Prior to enrollment, students must secure a position in a laboratory. A special registration form, signed by the faculty research advisor, should be submitted to the course instructor by August 1 for the Fall term, December 1 for the Spring term, or April 1 for the Summer term. Instructor Permission Required.
