Description: Introduction to the interdisciplinary field of synthetic biology. Focuses on molecular biological procedures commonly used to build and characterize synthetic genetic circuits. Students maintain a research quality laboratory notebook and submit a project proposal that promotes the development of novel biotechnology. Taught second half of fall semester. Prerequisite: BIOC 211 (formerly BIOS 211) or equivalent lab.
