Description: Study of 19th-century fiction through its discourses of displacement: its depiction of nostalgia and of "homelessness" in the first half of the century and of the crowd, the flaneur, and hysteria in the second. Readings in lyric, short fiction, the novel, and in critical theory. Graduate/Undergraduate Equivalency: FREN 555. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for FREN 455 if student has credit for FREN 555.
