Description: This course will examine Tolkien's awareness of medieval works such as Beowulf, The Battle of Maldon, The Wanderer, old English Riddles, Sir Galvain and the Green Knight, and the Finnish Kalevala in his scholarship and fiction, including The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and the Silmarillion.
