MECH 599 - SPECIAL TOPICS

Long Title: CURRENT TOPICS IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
Department: *Mech Eng & Materials Science*
Grade Mode: Standard Letter
Course Type: Lecture
Credit Hours: 3
Description: NONLINEAR SOLID MECHANICS FOR FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS. MECH 599.001 (SECTION ONE - CRN 12068) The course is intended for graduate engineering students who understand linear stress analysis methods by finite element. We will apply the companion software and extend the software to fo3. The text will be followed closely. The full table of contents are online at www.cambridge.org. Contents include directional derivatives, large displacement and large strain kinematics, hyperelasticity, elasto-plastic deformations, applications, computer implementation. ------------------------------------------------------------ NEURAL CONTROL OF MOVEMENT MECH 599.002 (SECTION TWO - CRN 13991) This course will cover the mechanisms of human motor systems and control, using arm movements as an example. Includes basic anatomy and physiology, functional analysis, and systems based analysis. The course culminates with review of physiological studies to uncover theories of how the nervous system may control movement. Intended for graduate students with a background and interest in robotics control ssytems, and biomechanics. This course will include significant technical communications component (oral and written) and will require experimental work via project. Repeatable for Credit.
