Description: Study of social movements that have emerged since the late 20th century, including environmentalism, the women's movement, and the movement for gay rights, peace, indigenous people's rights, and global justice. We will also consider conservative movements, such as fundamentalism, as responses to modernization. Seminar format: presentation, discussion, research paper.
