Description: Mapping German Culture. The literature, fine arts and film of German Expressionism represent the most concentrated breakthrough of modernity. In addition to focusing on this accomplishment in its European context, the course will also discuss Nietzsche's influence, the movement's ambivalent reaction to WWI and its misappropriation by communism and national-socialism. Course taught in English with a possible FLAC section.
