Description: Sociological perspectives on "the economy" emphasizes that (1) economies are not reducible to markets and that (2) markets are social structures. Accordingly, this course examines how economic processes, such as production, distribution and exchange, are embedded in interpersonal relationships and social institutions such as bureaucratic states, local communities and families.
