A historical introduction to central themes of legal and political thought in the Western tradition from Immanuel Kant to John Rawls, this freshman seminar provides an overview of trends and controversies in modern political thought and society. Topics discussed include "civil rights", "morality", liberalism", "natural law," "political theology", and "freedom". Taught in English. Cross-list: FSEM 124.
