Seminar investigates the reconstruction of German social and political thinking between 1945 and 1989. Topics include the "end of history" in functionalist sociology; Bloch's reformulation of Marxism; literary representations of the Nazi past; the state of socialist present; reconsiderations of the public sphere; Wolf's feminist critique; and Luhmann's systems theory.
