Description: THE SEARCH FOR EL DORADO ***** From the time of Columbus to today, the lands we call Latin America have been imagined as a place of riches waiting to be discovered. This course will begin with diaries and chronicles of the conquistadores, and extends through to twentieth-century accounts of exploration and exploitation, including works by figures such as Neruda, Vallejo, Arguedas. ***** Prerequisite(s): Third-year Spanish or permission of the instructor. ***** Course offered Fall 2004. ***** Instructor(s): Jenckes
