Introduction to sound patterns in the languages of the world and to interpretation of these patterns in four theoretical traditions: distribution of holistic segments (Phonemic Theory), process-oriented feature models (Generative and Autosegemental models), constraint-based models (Optimality Theory), and cognitive approaches (Natural Generative Phonology and Cognitive Phonology).
