Description: ADVANCED LATIN: LITERATURE OF EXILE IN THE ROMAN TRADITION ***** We will focus upon Latin works on exile in prose and poetry, exploring the actual circumstances of exile in ancient Romes, the relation of exile poetry and elegy, Roman encounters with conceptions of foreigners, and the ways in which exile shaped Roman notions of cultural and individual identity.
